Dieses Paar wurde, circa 1975-1980, von dem grossen amerikanischen Schuhmacher Hanover hergestellt. Hanover hat einen Schuh nach absolutem Massanfertigungs-Standard produziert und ist von einer Qualität -höhe- als fast alles, was man auf dem heutigen Markt finden kann. Die Leisten des Schuhes sind kompromisslos und absolut und sofort an Ihrem hohen Massanfertigungs-Standard erkennbar. Von hundert Schuhen im Laufe eines Jahres treffe ich auf höchstens 3 oder 4 Exemplare dieser wunderbare „vintage“ Pferdeleder-Hanover.  Daher kann man sie durchaus als Rarität bezeichnen, sowohl was den Sammlerwert als auch was die Qualität betrifft. 
Von den 200 amerikanischen Schuhmachern, die es zu Beginn des vergangenen Jahrhunderts in Neu England gab, ist leider nur eine Handvoll übriggeblieben. Bostonian, Cole-Haan, Allen Edmonds, Alden, und J&M gehören zu den wenigen, die diese Schuhe noch herstellen. Der rahmengenähte Derby scheint mit einem Leisten gemacht zu sein, der für den amerikanischen Fuss passender und robuster ist.  Letztendlich eine gute "Heirat" zwischen Form und Qualität.
Grösse: Eine Standard-deutsche 44,5C (eine amerikanische 11C)(UK 10D), für den etwas schlankeren Fuss. 
Zustand: Superb!  Orginal-Sohle und Absatz sehr leicht getragen. Goodyear welted (naturlich) mit "split reverse welt" (storm welt) (Bild #6).

Out of the over 200 American Shoemakers clustered around New England at the start of the 20 Century, only a handful remain, among them Bostonian, Cole-Haan, J &M and, here in Europe, the better known Alden and Allen-Edmonds. The great Florsheim and Bostonian exist today as marketing firms, the bulk of their wares being produced off-shore. Lamentable.  Hanover too is reduced to a mere marketing firm, its offerings a far cry from the excellent hand-finished shoes for which they were once known and of which the present shoe is a splendid example.
The Hanover Derby shown here, dating from the late-1970 or early 1980, appears to have been produced in the custom workrooms of this once great shoemaker. Hanover, like Florsheim, Cordwainer, Nunn-Bush and others, produced more than one price and quality level of product, in some cases even taking orders for custom shoes, extremely desirable rarities today. This pair, although marked for size, appears to be on that custom level, utilizing the finest Horween (Chicago) Cordovan leather and Goodyear welted (of course).  This is a marvelous classic model in the old tradition of workmanship, a handsome and extremely durable shoe, equal to the great Florsheim Imperials and superior, in my view, to the contemporary Alden or Allen Edmonds cordovans in the 5-600 Euro catgory.
One of the beauties of Cordovan is that every piece of leather being slightly different, even when tanned and dyed by the same tanner (the great Horween of Chicago, in this case), the resulting colour will differ, sometimes dramatically.  Colour: This particular piece, unlike most oxblood coloured cordovan, tends more toward brown with some reddish undertones, which deepen into a polished antique mahogany colour in more subdued light....beautiful. Again, this shoe is of the highest build quality with double sole and additional storm welt ("split reverse welt"), a massive and indestructible shoe, a shoe for the generations.
Size: 11C US (UK 10D) (European 44,5 C) for the slightly narrower foot. 
Condition: Excellent; original sole and "horse shoe" nailed heel lightly worn. Goodyear welted (of course) with additional "split reverse welt" (storm welt) (Pic #6).
